      Kirk T. Johnson, 23, Macon

A months-long investigation ends in the arrests of 13 Macon residents on drug charges. Macon County Sheriff Robert Dawson says the suspects were arrested in an early morning drug sweep Thursday. The operation was named 'Operation Heat Wave.'

"Back in late 2011, we secured some funding through our County (Law Enforcement) Restitution Fund for undercover drug buys, and we've been busy working on the project since that time, and over the last several months we've got cases made against these 13 different people," said Dawson.

Dawson told KTVO the drugs involved in the cases are methamphetamine, marijuana, imitation controlled substances and prescription drugs.

He said his deputies made all of the undercover drug buys as part of the investigation.

The Macon Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the North Missouri Drug Task Force assisted the sheriff's office with the arrests Thursday morning.

"Our own officers and officers from three other agencies, we met up here (at the sheriff's office) about 6:30 a.m. (Thursday) and divided up into teams, and everybody took their information and the streets about 7 o'clock," said Dawson.
