Thousands stolen from local Christian school
Ottumwa, Iowa —
A former employee of Ottumwa Christian School has been arrested, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the school.
Joni Stinson, 40, of Ottumwa, has been charged with four felonies, including Money Laundering, Theft and Forgery.
According to court documents, Stinson stole over $160,000 from the school beginning back in June 2010.
During that time, Stinson allegedly wrote and cashed 230 checks from Ottumwa Christian School Board accounts.
She has pleaded not guilty and was released after posting a $32,000 bond.
It has been a rough fall for the Ottumwa Christian School family.
That fire was later determined to be arson.
Students were able to start classes after the board made arrangements to purchase the vacant Wildwood Elementary building from the Ottumwa Community School District.
