Indian Hills Community College hosted its 33rd annual celebrity night at the Tom Arnold Net Center on Wednesday evening.
The guest of honor of the evening was none other than Tom Arnold himself. The actor and comedian is an Ottumwa native who lived in the City of Bridges until he was 23-years-old. He got his start doing stand-up comedy at the University of Iowa, but he credits his two years at Indian Hills Community College for his successes today. New this celebrity night was a rededication of the net center, which bears Tom Arnoldâ??s name. He helped fund the construction of the recreational facility on the southeast corner of campus.
â??School during the day, and I felt like a college student, and I was around interesting people and it opened up all kinds of doors and here years later you know, Iâ??m a writer and producer and an actor, and a performer and none of that would have happened if I hadn't signed up for Indian Hills Community College,â?? Arnold said.
The Tom Arnold Net Center opened in 1997. Last fall, the volleyball facility underwent a major makeover during which new locker rooms, coachesâ?? offices and weight room were added. On a side note, Arnoldâ??s next movie, "Shelby," comes out this fall.
