Trees Forever hosted a workshop Tuesday evening where they talked about how Wapello County volunteers can help promote its trails.
Representatives from Trees Forever say there are three primary areas of trail enhancements that should be a community's top priorities. These are trailheads, landscaping and signage.
â??There are volunteers here that are interested in promoting their community through providing resources and preserving the landscape in Ottumwa and the area, so we're here to help assist that effort," Field Coordinator with Trees Forever Emily Swihart said. "That's what we do throughout the state is to help assist our volunteers in improving their own communities.â??
The Iowa DOT and the Federal Highway Administration fund the trails in Wapello County. If you're interested in getting involved in or starting a trail beautification project yourself and are seeking funds to do so, check out Trees Forever's Community Project Funding Guide more information.
