Truman State participates in an EPA food waste challenge
Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 is announcing nine new collegiate members of the EPA Food Recovery Challenge.
The challenge is a national initiative aimed at encouraging businesses, organizations and institutions to actively participate in food waste prevention and food recycling activities.
There are nine new members from the Missouri region participating. Truman State University is taking on the challenge for the Heartland.
Truman State's food service company, Sodexo, has designated the dinner hour for recycle collection.
Sodexo also offers reusable to-go boxes for students to cut down on paper and styrofoam use.
The food recovery program encourages organizations to find better alternatives to disposing food.
It also helps organizations learn to practice leaner purchasing and get food to hunger-relief organizations.
