Truman students collect food for the hungry

Students are collecting food donations through Oct. 6.

Truman State University students are doing their part to make sure people in the community are fed.

Students from Truman will have a food drive for the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri the week of September 30.

Two students announced the food drive at the recent ribbon cutting ceremony for the new food bank store front.

From September 30 through October 6, students will be collecting food on campus and at Hy-Vee and Wal-mart from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Truman student Lauren Maag says one dollar equals 15 pounds of food, so anything donated is greatly appreciated.

â??All money and food stays in the Kirksville area,â?? Maag said, â??It will be given to those who need food and children and school systems who also need food.â??

Maag said their goal is to collect 36 hundred pounds of food.
