Sunday night, Las Cafeteras, an East Los Angeles band, brought their "More Than Musicâ?? tour to the Truman State campus. The tour was not a typical feature of latest hits. It was centered around a message of racism and diversity.
Las Cafeteras says their hope is to impact the Truman community through their Afro-Mexican music and story-telling.
â??When we perform and we do workshops, I think we've seen students really be kind of sheepish when they walked in a room, maybe in a room of people they don't really know and find that they had a story and learn something about themselves. Some people said wow... Iâ??m willing to share this story on camera, Iâ??ll tweet my story... people are willing to start talking about issues that they faced that they weren't willing to talk about publicly,â?? says band member Daniel French.
