Two charged for stealing thousands in electronics from school
FREMONT, Iowa —
Authorities say they’ve charged the men responsible for the theft of thousands of dollars of electronics from a southeast Iowa elementary.
On October 27, Fremont Elementary School officials reported that approximately $9,000 worth of electronic devices had been taken from the school. After a month-long investigation, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office charged two Fremont men with the burglary.
Joel Thorn Welch, 28, and Blake Tyler Cassatt, 24, each face third-degree burglary and second-degree theft charges in connection with the incident. They also face possession of marijuana charges.
Welch was arrested at his residence on November 27, but Cassatt remains at large.
