Two local residents honored for distinguished service
The Kirksville Rotary Club held its annual Ray Klinginsmith Distinguished Service Award Banquet.
The banquet was held Thursday evening at the Thousand Hills Dining Lodge where members enjoyed dinner and musical selections.
The purpose of the award was to annually recognize one member from the Rotary Club of Kirksville, and another from the Thousand Hills Rotary Club.
We spoke with Mr. Ray Klinginsmith, the 2010-2011 Rotary International President, and he said he's honored that two members of the Rotary Club came up with the idea to name this award after him.
"I'm very honored," said Kllingsmith. "A few years ago the two conceived the idea of naming this award after me to show lifetime achievement. It's been happening now for the past four or five years."
The award honors individuals who display involvement, achievement and distinguished leadership in Rotary and other civic services.
Each recipient was selected by a Klinginsmith Distinguished Service Awards Committee and each honoree received a framed certificate or plaque recognizing the services they've shown.
Harriet Beard and Terry Combs were the recipients this year. Congratulations to them!
