The theft of three vehicles has landed an Ottumwa man in jail with a slew of charges.
On Dec. 31, deputies from the Wapello County Sheriff's Office located two vehicles reported stolen. One, a Ford pickup in Mahaska County, reported missing from Kirkville and the second, a Ford Mustang in Kirkville, reported missing from the Ottumwa Police Department.
A third vehicle was reported missing in Mahaska County and found by deputies from the Keokuk County Sheriff's Office.
A short chase ensued, ending with 28-year-old Keith Hewitt charged with driving offenses in Keokuk County, burglary in Mahaska County and two counts of theft in Wapello County.
A second man, 26-year-old Daniel Fields, also of Ottumwa, was arrested and charged with burglary in Mahaska County and two counts of theft in Wapello County.
Both Hewitt and Fields are being held in the Mahaska County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
