Authorities have found an unidentified man dead in a Fairfield home.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of a vehicle belonging to a missing Illinois man.

Authorities suspect that the man had forced entry into an unoccupied residence in the 1200 block of South Main Street. The vehicle was found abandoned a short distance from the home.

After negotiation attempts failed, officers entered the home and found the man dead. For now, police say there is no evidence to suggest the death is suspicious.

The man's name is not being released.

No weapons were found, and the body has been sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Capt. David Thomas of the Fairfield Police tells KTVO the investigation is ongoing, and no threat to the public safety has yet been identified.
