A northeast Missouri pedestrian is dead after being struck by a sports utility vehicle while trying to cross a Heartland highway.
Unionville Police Chief Tim Corwin told KTVO the victim is Charles Shrake, 72, of Unionville, Missouri.
Corwin said Shrake was attempting to cross Highway 136 in Unionville just before 6 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by an SUV driven by Robert Goodyear, 35, of Unionville.
Goodyear told officers it was dark, and he simply did not see Shrake until it was too late.
Shrake was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The tragedy happened at the intersection of Highway 136 and 27th Street, not far from Shrake's home.
The police chief said, at this time, no charges are being filed against Goodyear.
