The United Way of Adair County and Northeast Missouri kicked off its annual campaign Thursday evening. If you haven't given in recent years, there may be a new incentive to contribute this year.
Dozens of people gathered at Jackson Stables outside Kirksville to say "cheers" to the beginning of the fall campaign. United Way Director John Dungan said this year the United Way received an anonymous $25,000 match grant, which he's hoping will be an incentive for more people to give. â??We're calling it the Millennium Match,â?? Dungan said. â??So, anyone who wants to move up and contribute at the $1000 level will have their increased match this year. If they gave nothing last year and they want to contribute $1000 dollars, (another) $1000 will be contributed on their behalf.â??
Dungan said this yearâ??s goal is to raise $250,000. According to Dungan the organization raised $12,280 in pledges Thursday night.
It's kicking off the campaign with more than $53,000 in pledges toward its $250,000 goal.
