Vehicle goes into Heartland lake--UPDATED

One person is dead after a vehicle went into Forest Lake at Thousand Hills State Park Saturday afternoon.
Adair County Coroner Brian Noe tells KTVO 48-year-old Douglas Goodwin of Kirksville died in the incident.
Authorities responded to a report of a vehicle in the lake around 3:35 p.m.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Goodwin's car went off the left side of the road, struck a sign and conintued across the parking lot before becoming airborne and going into the lake.
Eyewitnesses tell KTVO the vehicle went into the water near the Thousand Hills Dining Lodge. One person reported the vehicle was speeding down the hill on the road leading to the restaurant and marina, and said they had to swerve to avoid being hit by the car.
A park ranger pulled Goodwin from the submerged vehicle. He was unconscious and was taken to Northeast Regional Medical Center. Noe says an autopsy will be performed next week in Boone County.
The Kirksville Police Department, Adair County Sheriff's Office, ACAD, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Water Patrol, Air Evac and Kirksville Fire Department all responded to the incident.
