An investigation into a Heartland shooting is going nowhere because the victim declined to press charges.

According to a statement from the Fairfield Police Department, officers responded to to 804 West Depot Wednesday night just before 11.

There had been a report of a subject being shot with a firearm.

The subject had been taken the Jefferson County Health Center before the arrival of officers and deputies.

Thursday's statement says that Fairfield P. D. does not have a complaining victim at this time.

KTVO contacted Jefferson County Attorney Tim Dille for clarification. He told KTVO that law enforcement knows who the victim is, but that the victim doesn't wish to pursue charges.

Fairfield P. D. says Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, the County Attorney's Office, and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation all assisted in the investigation.
