One after school program at a Heartland school is a dream come true for one music teacher.
Earlier this year, we brought you the story of Kirksville violin instructor Karen Kubin who was interested in starting "The Violin Project" at Kirksville Primary School as part of the after school program.
Six months later...KTVO was at the school Monday to see Kubin teach eight students on how to play the violin.
Since the first day of school on August 19, Kubin has been giving lessons to the kids five days a week for 50 minutes.
Kubin said it has been an amazing experience so far.
"It's pretty unreal. It's been a lot of work and happened piece by piece. It's pretty cool to see it happening. The neatest thing is getting to know these kids and spending time with them every day," Kubin said.
Kubin said she has appreciated the community support on her project. She has been able to raise over $4,000 for the program to buy instruments and provide scholarships for her students.
Kubin is hoping that the violin project will continue to grow in the future.
