The Ottumwa Community School District is in the process of putting together a â??2020 Vision Plan.â??
The plan is focused on what the school districtâ??s needs would be in the year 2020; whether it is technological or facility-wise.
Currently, a new elementary school is being constructed on the south-end of town and is set to open in August of 2013. According to the superintendentâ??s office, the construction is on-time and the facility is coming together nicely.
However, with the plan that is being proposed, the district is in preliminary talks to build a new elementary school on the north-end.
â??We look at how we address the facilities on the north side of town, and that is when, on Monday night, at our board work session, we just began discussing what it might look like for a new elementary school on this side of town. As far as locations, where that might be, what the school might look like, what it would consist of; so we are in the very early stages of those discussions,â?? said Dr. Davis Eidahl, Superintendent of the Ottumwa Community School District.
Eidahl told KTVO that the new school, if built, would be funded through the statewide penny tax, not through any property taxes.
As for the middle school and the high school in Ottumwa, Eidahl says that both facilities are in good shape and are serving the district well. He said that some improvements could be made to the high school in the future.
