Volunteers clean-up and revamp Fairfield Loop Trail
Over a dozen volunteers got their hands dirty Saturday morning and into the afternoon sprucing up a park in the Heartland.
People brought their shovels and paint-brushes to the Fairfield Loop Trail to help clean-up and revamp the area, which attracts a lot of tourists and residents this time of year. Chairman of the Jefferson County Trails Steve Pedrick says volunteers began laying out an area where a new boardwalk will be placed where the 16 mile trail crosses Walton Rd. He says this is a safety feature for bikers and runners to avoid traffic leaving the golf course. Volunteers also sanded, did some general trimming and painted the park's benches
â??We're trying to do this twice a year now, and we're really excited to do it this year because Ragbrai's coming through Fairfield in July, so we're trying to get things looking into tip-top shape,â?? Pedrick said.
Pedrick anticipates the boardwalk to be complete before the fall.
