On July 9, voters will have the choice in who the next Wapello County Recorder will be. This is something that is not typically seen in special elections.
Lisa Kent, Betty Stromgren and Mary Margaret Riedel-Butler are the three candidates running for the position. All three women have impressive credentials on their resumes.
Stromgren is the office manager for the Board of Supervisors, where she has worked for the past 14 years. Riedel-Butler is a clerk in the county auditor's office, where she has worked the past decade, and Kent has been the county's deputy recorder for nearly 11 years. In that role, she is currently responsible for performing the day-to-day tasks of the recorder as she campaigns to hold that position permanently.
â??I hope the citizens of Wapello County look at the experience and look at the person that they feel could step into that job and do that job from day one without any interruption to any of the services provided by that office,â?? Kent said.
The recorder position has been vacant since Joyce Hass retired in May.
