Wapello County 4-H Expo kicks off July 15

The Wapello County 4-H Expo begins Monday, July 15, and this year there will be a little something different.

On Friday, July 19, a celebrity beef show will bring local big names to the Bridge View Center. The participants will show off steer and heifer to see what 4-H kids do in the ring.

"We're doing a variety of businesses and people that we think will bring in people to the expo that maybe never come," said Allison Angle, 4-H Volunteer. "Hopefully it's going to be a lot of fun - we have some awards for best dressed, best showman and the person who brings the most people to cheer for them will also get an award. So we're hoping to have 10-15 people from the community in that, kind of like the governor's steer show at the state fair."

Of course, the expo will have its usual activities such as the horse show, royalty pageant and kids' day, as well.

"It's just a lot of fun for the community and most of the events are free, unless you want to eat," said Katie Streeby, Wapello County Youth Coordinator.
