Wapello County 4-H Expo kicks off next week

The Wapello County Extension Office is preparing for the 4-H Expo beginning next week.

This week, staff members are organizing volunteers and meals and preparing for the activities and shows.

Events kick off Monday, July 14 with the royalty pageant. Wednesday is Kid's Day with Dizzy the Clown, face painting and other activities. Friday is Alumni Day. The entire expo highlights the hard work the 4-H kids do all year round.

"They are so excited to get in there and it just shows what they've accomplished throughout the year," said Cindy Emery, County Youth Coordinator. "They get with the other kids and they meet new friends, they know teamwork. It's responsibility, if they have animals, it shows how they've cared for their animal and what they've done throughout the year to get it to that point."

The Extension Office is still looking for volunteers to help out with next week's activities. Sign-up for Thursday's 5K race is still open. Most of the contests are free, but registration for the 5K race is $15 and includes a t-shirt.

To sign up to volunteer or for any of the contests, call the Wapello County Extension Office at 641-684-5491.
