Wapello County con swept up in federal drug probe
Des Moines, Iowa —
A former Wapello County convict is facing federal drug charges.
James Oren Phillips, 39, was taken into custody on Monday.
He is charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine.
According to the federal indictment, Phillips knowingly attempted to distribute more than 500 grams of the drug.
Phillips is one of 11 defendants in the case.
Prosecutors enhanced the charged by labeling Phillips a habitual offender.
Phillips has a 2002 conviction in Wapello County for the possession of the drug lithium.
He is currently being held by federal marshals while he awaits the outcome of a detention hearing.
His trial date is set for September 5.
