The Wapello County Democrats held their caucus Tuesday night at the Ottumwa High School cafeteria.
The Democrats were pleased with the showing as they all gathered to achieve two important goals for the night: to start organizing for the 2014 campaigns and also start developing their party platform.
Wapello County Democrats Chair Melinda Jones said those in attendance guide the items they hope to see in the state party platform.
"Because it really just kind of depends on what people here bring to us," said Jones. "Our platform is really developed through the grassroots of our party. So it's really the issues that are most important to the people that are here tonight."
Jones said the Democrats are optimistic about their chances of increasing their margin in the Senate and taking back the Iowa House.
She said the party is excited about Congressman Bruce Braley running for the U.S. Senate.
And when it comes to the race for governor, Jones said she believes Iowans are ready for a change.
