Wapello County examines courthouse fire escape
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
Wapello County is taking a closer look at its courthouse fire escape.
County Supervisor Brian Morgan told KTVO the fire escape stairs didn't pass a recent inspection, but no one knew they were supposed to be tested to begin with.
Morgan said the fire escape got some attention as soon as the county considered installing more windows in the courthouse.
Right now, the board is working with contractors that specialize in historical buildings, to develop a plan. Morgan said they're looking at upwards of $250,000 to replace the stairs.
