Wapello County is on the hunt for an Information Technology Director, a position the county has never had before.
The county recently had an analysis of its IT budget and found that the county was spending more than necessary on anything from phone and internet service to ink jets and computers. The Wapello County Board of Supervisors came to the conclusion that having a dedicated IT Director to oversee all those purchases would be more cost-efficient than having each department do the purchasing themselves.
"I think we're hoping to save money because a lot of the systems and hardware that we've purchased, individual departments have purchased them, so we haven't really accessed our buying power as a group and buying in bulk and even really shopping around for the best deal sometimes," said Steve Siegel, of the Wapello County Board of Supervisors. "So we're hopeful that this is going to save us considerable money."
Siegel said about half the counties in Iowa have an IT director position, and while some knowledge of Wapello County is a plus, they're looking for anyone with a good grasp on county government and maintenance.
