Way Off Broadway 2012 â??Fun-Raiserâ??

Way Off Broadway, Iowaâ??s only professional musical theatre company and the residential company at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts in conjunction with the Fairfield Golf and Country Club are excited to announce the 2012 â??Fun-Raiserâ?? to raise funds for both organizations on Saturday evening March 10th starting at 6:30pm at the Fairfield Golf and Country Club.

Robby Benson, (80â??s heartthrob and the voice of the Beast in Disneyâ??s Beauty and the Beast) and Karla DeVito, his wife, and well known recording artist and performer, will join WOBâ??s Artistic Director Randal West as they host an evening of gourmet food, great entertainment and a very special auction.

The Fairfield Golf and country Club will begin serving the dinner at 6:30pm and the gourmet menu prepared by Geof Northridge will include Ribs, Cheesy Potatoes, Veggie Lasagna, Wrapped Asparagus, Spanakopita, Pasta, Alfredo sauce, Grilled chicken, Bread, Veggie Platter, Fruit Platter, Green Salad, and specially created Dessert options. The meal will be followed by entertainment by members of the cast of WOB's next show, Forbidden Broadway, along with Diana Upton- Hill, Margaret Clair and Lea McCormick, all accompanied by Justin Hill.

The entertainment will be followed by a spectacular array of auction items which will include a 6 pelt sheepskin rug from Overland, a monthly supply of cookies from Cookies From the Heart for one year, Yoga Lessons, Personalized Greeting Cards, a stone engraving, gift certificates from the Istanbul Grill and Top of the Rock, and many personalized collectible items such as signed posters of the Broadway Cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Avenue Q, a signed copy of Seth Rudeskyâ??s new book, and many Beauty and the Beast Blurays, a poster and some storybooks which Robby with personalize for the people who buy them. There will be door prizes and free giveaways to everyone attending.

This is an opportunity for people to meet and mingle with Robby and Karla and WOB in an fun, intimate setting. Robby was the lead actor in such films as Ode to Billy Joe, Ice Castles, Walk Proud, Death Be Not Proud. He wrote and starred in One on One when he was 17, The End with Burt Reynolds, The Chosen with Rod Steiger, Two of a Kind with George Burns, Harry and Son with Paul Newman and many more. He provided the voice for the Beast, and for Prince Valiant in the Legend of Prince Valiant and is Prince Alexander in the computer game Kingâ??s Quest V1: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow. Robby has directed over 100 sitcom episodes including Friends, Sabrina, an entire season of Ellen and two seasons of Thunder Alley, he also wrote the novel â??Who Stole the Funny?â?? and his new book is titled â??Iâ??m Not Dead Yetâ??. Karla DeVito was in the National touring company of Hair, was a singer with Meatloaf on the â??Bat Out of Hellâ?? Tour and performed in the music videos. On MTV Karla hosted the series Rock Influences and when she sang â??Where the Boys Areâ?? on the David Letterman Show he called her â??The sweetheart of Rock and Rollâ??. Karla replaced Linda Ronstadt in the Joseph Papp version of Pirates of Penzance and eventually met Robby when he replaced Rex Smith in the same production.

One of Robby and Karla's songs, "We Are Not Alone", was a popular hit featured in the motion picture The Breakfast Club. Robby wrote the Musical â??Open Heartâ?? which featured Karla, Robby and Stan Brown, a Fairfield favorite, in New York, Utah and here with WOB in the Sondheim Center.
