Wintry weather on course to hit Heartland
A winter storm that is on track to bring up to six inches of snow in northwest Iowa will be impacting the Heartland from late Wednesday through Thursday.
Light rain will begin Wednesday night before transitioning to a wintry mix and freezing rain Thursday morning.
Some ice is expected on roads as rain quickly freezes and the colder air moves in to the area.
This is expected to impact the morning and evening commute Thursday.
As the temperatures drop throughout the day, the wintry mix will change over to snow.
We are expecting a half inch to an inch of snow accumulation.
Bitter cold temperatures will also return with this storm and persist through the weekend, as wind chill values drop into the teens or 20s below zero each morning.
Travelers through the region should continue to monitor the forecast for updates.
