Woman accused of writing more than two dozen bad checks

A Heartland woman is charged with forging a name on hundreds of dollars of checks. Kristen Altiser, 29, Kirksville, is accused of forging 12 checks at a Kirksville gas station.
Altiser is accused of writing the checks on a closed US Bank account in April. According to the probable cause statement, the victim was incarcerated in the Adair County Detention Center at the time.
The victim said she was unaware that Altiser was using her checkbook and that Altiser was living in her previous home. After identifying Altiser in photo line ups they discovered she wrote checks at other places as well.
The total amount of the forged checks was more than $900. She is charged with 12 counts of Class C felony forgery.
Her bond was set at $25,000 cash only.
