Authorities are investigating a case that was originally reported as a possible rape.
The Edina Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol TMs Division of Drug and Crime Control are trying to figure out exactly what happened to a 26-year-old Edina woman inside a rental home on North Street on the north side of town.
The victim's mother told KTVO her daughter called her around 3 a.m. Saturday to come pick her up.
The woman found her daughter outside the house, disoriented, with major trauma to her groin area. The mother said her daughter was in such bad shape she couldn't even walk.
Edina Police Chief Roger Waibel told KTVO he's never seen anything like this, and he doesn TMt want to see anything like it again.
"The severity of the injuries is something I don't believe any of us have ever encountered before as far as the severity of it," said Waibel.
Waibel said the victim also had bruises on her arms and legs.
Waibel told us the situation started with consensual sex between the woman and one man.
Another man was also at the home at the time.
Authorities said the two are potential suspects. Both men are from Edina.
The men have been questioned, but no arrests have been made and no charges filed at this time.
The victim told police she doesn TMt remember what happened after the consensual sex.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center where she was treated in the Emergency Room.
Investigators seized evidence from the scene, and they're waiting on toxicology and forensic reports.
