Wed, 30 Jul 2014 21:03:44 GMT — Although work has been stopped at the Market Street Bridge due to high river water levels, construction crews are busy completing the pump station structure at Sycamore Park. They are installing a permanent pump to help manage flood water. Crews used to have to install additional pumps during high flood stages, but will no longer need to with this new structure."We have all the storm water on the south side of town, or most of it, coming to the oxbow of the Des Moines river and this will pump it over the levee system and into the river on high flow," said City Engineer Dan Sturm. They have been building the new pump for the past month and expect the structure to be done by August or September, at which time installing the new equipment will begin.
