YMCA teams up with health program, offers free health screenings
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
October is National Health Literacy month.
One Heartland organization is helping you keep to up to date when it comes to your health needs.
The Adair County YMCA and Missouri Community Linkage program will provide free blood pressure and weight screenings Thursday morning.
The program supports residents and patients in between doctor visits with wellness activities, chronic disease management, education and information about general health needs.
All residents in the region are eligible to participate.
YMCA Wellness Director Misti Harris told KTVO why this is an important event for the community to attend.
"We're the YMCA so we want to support people's health and wellness in this event and this program allows people to take their health into their own hands as much as they can in between doctor visits."
This event will be held Thursday from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.
In addition to health screenings, participants will have access to free educational material to help monitor diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and other chronic conditions.
