The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra performed its Winter Classical Series Sunday evening with help of their Young Artist Competition Winner, Rachel Gibbons.
Gibbons, a senior in high school, is a cellist and won the competition in her first time competing.
She has played with the group numerous times, but never in the capacity of a solo performance that winning the competition netted her.
"I'm a senior this year so it was my last chance to do it," said Gibbons. "I think it's good preparation for my career, and I plan on majoring in music so it's a really good opportunity for me."
Gibbons said sign ups for the competition begin in October, with auditions and winners announced in December at Mount Pleasant.
During her solo performance Sunday evening, Gibbons performed Bohemian Cellist David Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody.
