Your local library offers a warm, safe place for kids this winter break

Friday was the last day of school for most students in Southeast Iowa and if you're a parent wondering what to do with your kids over the next few weeks until it's time for them to head back to class, a great option is your local library.

The Bloomfield Public Library is open throughout the winter, with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The library not only has holiday books for kids, but CDs and DVDs, as well.

If you have to work during the holiday break, instead of leaving your kids home alone, drop them off at the library for the day.

"It's a safe place, warm place and that's what some of my kids do, they come in because they know - they come down here and sit in the little room where we're at - and they know it's quiet and they can bring their laptops or Kindles or whatever and they can sit down here and just hang out here until we close," said Library Director Beth Sullivan.

The Bloomfield Library is open Monday 10-2, Tuesday 11-6, Wednesday-Friday 11-5:30 and Saturday 9-noon. For more information, visit their website.
