Family speaks out after deputy-involved shooting that killed suspect, 6-year-old boy
SCHERTZ, Texas (WOAI/News 4 San Antonio) – Deputies with the Bexar County Police Department fatally shot a 30-year-old female suspect on Thursday and accidentally shot and killed a 6-year-old boy during a pursuit.
The family of the suspect involved in Thursday’s deadly shooting has spoken out. In an exclusive interview with News 4 San Antonio, the family shared the final words they told Amanda Lenee Jones, 30, just moments before Bexar County Deputies shot and killed her.
Jessica is Jones’ girlfriend. She told News 4 San Antonio Jones’ had called her from a trailer at the Pecan Grove neighborhood.
“She said, I'm naked. I'm scared and I'm running in boxers and my bra. I think they are (going to) get me. I have to go, I love you,” explained Jessica.
Jones was shot to death by 4 deputies at a trailer park in Schertz after a two- hour manhunt near FM 1518.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said Jones claimed to have had a weapon and that she threatened deputies with it.
Jones was then cornered on the porch of a trailer and that’s when the shots went off killing Jones and Kameron Prescott, 6.
“She didn't deserve to die, neither did that boy,” said Renee Jones, the suspect’s mother.
Jones’ family is offering their thoughts to the family and friends of the 6-year-old boy.
“Our condolences in our hearts to them because he was young (and) he had his whole life ahead of him,” added R. Jones.
Amanda Jones does have an extensive criminal history, mostly drug charges.
Bexar County Deputies are still searching for a handgun they say Jones had at some point Thursday during a prolonged pursuit.
Jones’ family doesn’t believe that a handgun will be found or that Jones’ had a gun during Thursday’s incident.
