Bob Reed, 96, of Kirksville, Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
Bob Reed, 96, longtime Kirksville resident, passed away August 6, 2017 in Leawood, KS where he had lived the past two and one-half years. Bobby Napoleon Reed was born May 3, 1921 in Towanda, KS to Margaret Griffith Reed and Napoleon Logan Reed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor M. Reed, his parents, sister, Marian, and brother, Edgar.
Mr. Reed served as an Ensign in the Navy during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific in command of an LCT. Upon discharge from active duty he attended and graduated from the University of Kansas. While there he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
After relocating to Kirksville with the Burroughs Company he met and married Eleanor M. Howell in 1953, becoming a loving father to her two daughters. Over the years, Mr. Reed was employed with Citizens National Bank, Kirksville Daily Express, Kirksville Savings & Loan and, at the time of his retirement in 1986, Community Federal Savings & Loan. Elected President of the Missouri Savings & Loan League in 1975, he was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Rotary Club, Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, Kirksville Country Club, Saddle Club and other affiliations.
He is survived by daughters, Judee Glore of Olathe, KS and Robyn (Gene) Zwolinski of Leawood, KS as well as three grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Lackey of Carbon, IN, Patrick (Kristen) Zwolinski of Olathe, KS and Mary Zwolinski of Leawood, KS. Additional survivors include five great-grandchildren, Calvin, Simon, Maggie and Henry Lackey and Parker Zwolinski.
A memorial service followed by luncheon will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 12, at 11:00 am. Private burial will be at the Maple Hills Chapel Mausoleum.
