Fri, 30 Aug 2013 16:05:38 GMT — Northern Illinois (12-2 in 2012) at Iowa (4-8 in 2012), 2:42 p.m. (BTN) Line: Iowa by 3 Series record: Iowa leads 8-0 WHAT'S AT STAKE Iowa is in desperate need of a boost after finishing last season with a six-game losing streak. A win for Northern Illinois would be huge for new coach Rod Carey as the Huskies start with four road games out of five. KEY MATCHUP Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch vs. Iowa's front seven: Lynch enters 2013 as one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation. It'll be the job of Iowa's defensive line and linebackers to keep Lynch contained, much like they did last season in an 18-17 win in Chicago. PLAYERS TO WATCH Northern Illinois. RB Cameron Stingily. He rushed for just five yards in 2012. But with Akeem Daniels sidelined with a foot injury, he'll likely start. Iowa: QB Jake Rudock. He'll be the first Iowa QB to make his debut in a season opener since 1994. FACTS & FIGURES Iowa beat the Huskies 24-14 in 2006, the last meeting between the schools in Iowa City...Lynch was the first quarterback in FBS history to throw for over 3,000 yards and run for more than 1,500 yards in a season in 2012...Four of Iowa's losses last season were by four points or less...Northern Illinois has won 21 of its last 23 games.
