Lewis trumps Truman at home 73-58

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – A frigid shooting day by the Truman Women's Basketball team plus a 26-point, 11-rebound performance by the reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week led to a 73-58 home loss by the Bulldogs to the Lewis Flyers on Saturday.

Truman (8-3; 3-1 GLVC) got off to the start they were looking for scoring the first five points in the first 1:01 of the contest but the Flyers (11-4; 4-1 GLVC) got their engines fired up and scored the next 13 points and never trailed again. The Bulldogs had an uncharacteristic seven turnovers in the first eight minutes of the game and finished with 15.

The Bulldogs tied it at 15 early in the second quarter but a 16-4 burst gave Lewis their first double-digit lead of the game at 31-19. Truman never got it back into single digits.

Katie Jaseckas led Truman with 16 points and seven rebounds while Brooke Bailey added 11 off the bench and Ashley Hartwig scored 10. However, Truman's shooting was the second lowest of the season at 38% and from outside, Truman managed only five of 25 (20%) three-point attempts with two by the post player Jaseckas.

Meanwhile, Jessica Kelliher led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Kelliher leads the conference in scoring and came into the contest averaging a shade over 25 points per game.
