Indian Hills Community College sophomore Majok Deng is this yearâ??s recipient of the Arnold Black Memorial Scholarship.
Deng, from Adelaide, Australia, is the long returning player from last yearâ??s IHCC squad.
He was chosen for the award by the Indian Hills athletic department and coaching staff.
The scholarship was established in 1992 in honor of Black, a former Ottumwa businessman and loyal Indian Hills basketball supporter.
It is awarded to a sophomore member of the Warriors who best exemplifies the strong competitive spirit shown by Black and exhibits his love for the game of basketball.
Deng played in 27 games as a freshman and was one of the first players used off the bench by coach Barret Peery
He averaged 3.8 points a game and is expected to play a bigger role on this yearâ??s squad.
Last yearâ??s winner of the Arnold Black scholarship was Dustin Hogue.
Past winners of the scholarship have included Terry Black, Chauncey Leslie, Zach Morley and Sean Haluska.
