Truman softball signs a pair of student-athletes for 2018
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Fresh off a fourth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 16th in school history, the Truman State University softball team and head coach, Erin Brown, have announced the signing of two student-athletes that will join the program beginning with the 2018 season.
Mackayla Gordon • 5-6 • Catcher/First Base • Brownsburg, Ind. • Brownsburg
Coach's Corner: "Mackayla has power potential at the plate. She catches and can play first base. I think Mackayla brings another bat to our team. Her energy and leadership will serve our program well. I look forward to her joining us this fall."
High School: Leaves the Bulldogs of Brownsburg High School and joins the Bulldogs of Truman State University ... at Brownsburg, Gordon started and lettered all four years and during that time, she played 87 games with a .270 batting average, .362 on-base percentage, 54 hits, 31 RBI, and 14 doubles ... was a team captain all four years and part of a team that was Sectional Champions for 4A in 2014 ... earned an Academic Honor Diploma.
Personal: Daughter of Kristina and James Gordon ... has a younger sister named Mallerie and a younger brother named Tyler ... plans to major in psychology.
Kayla Quanstrum • 5-6 • Utility • Carol Stream, Ill. • Glenbard North
Coach's Corner: "Kayla is athletic and versatile. Defensively, I've seen her make some great plays. She can play both infield and outfield. Offensively, Kayla is scrappy and quick. She puts the ball in play and has the potential for extra-base hits. She will be a great addition to our program."
High School: Played softball, basketball and volleyball during her time as a Black Panther at Glenbard North High School ... on the diamond, she started and lettered all four years with a .509 batting average as a junior with eight home runs and 10 doubles ... was named All-Conference twice, All-Conference Honorable Mention once, Most Valuable Player, and the team captain for three seasons ... part of a team that took third place at state when she was a freshman ... started and lettered all four years on the court for both basketball and volleyball ... named Academic All-Conference.
Personal: Daughter of Charlie and Elvia Quanstrum ... has an older brother named Sean ... plans to major in education.
