Truman State baseball gets ready for post season play

The Truman Baseball team will face Drury (Mo.) University in an opening round game of the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason tournament.

The Bulldogs and Panthers will play at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the University of Southern Indiana Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Bulldogs earned one of two wildcard spots into the field of eight and will be taking on the Panthers for the fifth time this season. Drury swept a weekend series in Kirksville in early April by scores of 3-2, 3-0, 8-2 and 10-2. The winner will square off against the winner of the Indianapolis/Lewis (Ill.) game that precedes the Truman/Drury contest on Friday at 11:00 a.m.

The losers of each game will play at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in an elimination game. The event will mark the 35th GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament and the third-straight season it has been held at historic Bosse Field in Evansville.

In all, Bosse Field will host tournament games each of the four days and a total of nine of the 14 contests, with the remaining five being played at USI Field over the first two days.

A new conference champion will be crowned in Evansville as last season saw sixth-seeded Bellarmine, which did not qualify for the 2014 event, claim its third GLVC Championship in program history with a 2-1 victory over top-seeded Drury.
