Colton Schmitz to attend National Wrestling Leadership Academy

Colton Schmitz was selected to attend the 2014 National Wrestling Coaches Association Leadership Academy that will be held June 30 â?? August 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Leadership Academy runs in conjunction with the NWCA Convention in which Coach Dave Schutter will be attending.

Around 30 collegiate wrestlers across all NCAA Divisions and the NAIA were selected to attend the academy and will be paired with mentors from across the collegiate wrestling community.

Among the keynote speakers at the Leadership Academy are University of Miami (Fla.) Men's Basketball coach Jim Larranaga and former professional cyclist and Olympia Scott Mercier.

"I am really proud of Colton," said Coach Schutter. "He has been a great student-athlete and representative for Truman and our wrestling program."

Schmitz graduated this past May after concluding his Bulldog wrestling career with a 95-48 record, finishing eighth on the all-time wins list.

He is a three-time NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic member, earning first-team status the past two seasons while majoring in Exercise Science.
