Truman State University redshirt freshman Evyn Spencer has been named the first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Spencer scored in four events for the Bulldogs at the season-opening Missouri Show-Me Showdown last Friday (Oct. 4), taking home third-place finishes in the 100 Free (53.56) and as the opening leg of the 200 Free Relay squad.
Spencer swam her leg in 25.35, as Truman touched the wall as a team in 1:39.13.
Then, she picked up two eighth-place finishes, completing the 100 Back in a time of 1:00.35 before swimming leg two of the 400 Free Relay squad.
In that race, Spencer came home in 54.60 as part of the team's time of 3:42.48.
As a team, the Bulldog women placed sixth in the eight-team meet with a team score of 232.
That total put the squad just behind Washington University-St. Louis by two points for fifth-place.
The Bulldogs return to competition in two weekends with home meets on Oct. 18-19 in the Pershing Natatorium.
The women's squad hosts Division I Illinois State at 6:00 pm on Oct. 18, before both teams face off against Lindenwood at noon on Oct. 19.
