Indian Hills Community College had six athletes and five teams recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their academic performance during the 2012-13 year.
Of the six individuals who received academic honors, Hiliary Pennington (Carlisle, Ia.) from the IHCC softball team was awarded the NJCAAâ??s highest academic honor, the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence, for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average for the year.
Four other Indian Hills athletes were given an Exemplary Academic Achievement award for their grade point averages of between 3.60 and 3.79.
Those honored in that category were Carrie Hudson (Kirksville, Mo.) from softball, volleyball players Victoria Ita (Burlington, Ia.) and Arika Johnson (San Luis Obispo, Cal.), and Brennan Floss (West Des Moines, Ia.) from the IHCC baseball team.
Another volleyball player, Ailime de Freitas (Sao Paulo, Brazil), received a Superior Academic Achievement award for her grade point average of 3.81.
The Indian Hills baseball, womenâ??s cross country, golf, softball and volleyball teams were all named NJCAA All-Academic Teams. All those squads had team GPAs above 3.0 for the year.
The baseball team had a GPA of 3.33, third-highest of all two-year schools in the country. The womenâ??s cross country team also had the third-best GPA in the nation, 3.42.
â??We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom,â?? said IHCC Athletic Director Mike Hagen.
â??Itâ??s a real honor to have over half of our athletic teams and six outstanding individuals recognized for their academic achievements.â??
Four of the Indian Hills teams honored for their academic success this year were also award winners last year with the volleyball team joining the list in 2012-13.
For the IHCC softball squad it is the 14th consecutive year they have been an NJCAA All-Academic Team.
