IHCC golf places first yet again

Indian Hills placed five golfers in the top eight scores and rolled to an easy victory in the Blueboy Invitational, hosted by Illinois College.

George Trujillo was the meet medalist, his second straight first-place finish and third this spring, as he edged teammate Jakob Garstecki and Mineral Area's Tanner McKinney by a stroke.

IHCC's Colin Pearson was 4th as the Warrios picked up their 3rd tournament win in the spring and their 5th this year.

Indian Hills opened up a 15-stroke lead after the first day, shooting an eight-over par 296. They followed with a 298 in the second round for a 594 total, 33 shots ahead of Monmouth College. IHCC had the only two rounds under 300 in the 11-team field at Piper Glen Golf Course.

Trujillo trailed his teammate and classmate, Garstecki, by four shots after the opening round, but fired a one-under par 71 over the second 18 holes to claim the individual title. Garstecki's even-par 72 was followed by a 76. Pearson had matching 75s for the Warriors, who had Greg Stanek and Harrison Moore end up tied for 6th and 8th, respectively. Stanek had a one-over par 73 to open the tourney.

Indian Hills will have just over a week to prepare for the District III Championship, which will be played Apr. 28-29 in Lawrence, Kan. There, the Warriors will attempt to qualify for the Division I National Championship meet at Spirit Hollow in Burlington May 13-16.
