With ten sophomores departing from last yearâ??s team, Indian Hills Community College basketball coach Barret Peery has lots of holes to fill on his 2013-14 roster.
The coach has taken an early step toward putting together next yearâ??s team with the signing of Stuart Wesonga.
Wesonga is a 6â??8â?? forward from Novato, California and Peery says he will help fill the frontline void at the power forward position created by the loss of Jameel McKay and Richard Amardi.
â??Stuart is very long and active around the rim,â?? Peery said. â??He scores the ball very well and is a tremendous rebounder.â??
The comment about rebounding is reflected in Wesongaâ??s high school numbers.
He averaged 20.3 boards as a senior and 15.2 as a junior at San Marin High School.
Wesonga, who was born in Kenya, scored 21.5 points a game his senior season when he led his team to the first North Coast Section title in the schoolâ??s 43-year history.
He had a 23.4 scoring average as a junior.
Peery is also excited about what Wesonga can add to the Warriorsâ?? trademark full court press. â??He will fit us very well defensively in the press, guarding a lot of different positions, because of his length and athleticism.
He averaged 5.2 blocks his senior season and over seven rejections the year before.â??
Wesonga signed with Cal State Northridge after his senior year at San Marin, but opted instead to go to San Francisco City College, one of the elite junior college programs in California.
After his lone season at SFCC, he suffered a shoulder injury in the summer of 2012, an injury that required surgery and prevented him from playing last season
