Indian Hills Community College golf coach Mike Hagen has been elected to the National Junior College Athletic Association Golf Hall of Fame.
Hagen, in his ninth season as head golf coach at IHCC, has piled up some impressive credentials in his time at Indian Hills, foremost among them the back-to-back national championships he led the Warriors to in 2011 and 2012.
When Indian Hills won the 2011 national title, they became the first â??northernâ?? school to win the Division I crown, and they repeated as champs the next year.
Following those two seasons, Hagen was named the NJCAA National Coach of the Year and the Eaton/Golf Pride District III and National Coach of the Year.
â??Iâ??m truly humbled and honored to have been chosen for the Golf Hall of Fame,â?? Hagen said. â??Iâ??m proud to represent Indian Hills and my program, but Iâ??m even more excited to be able to share this with my family and friends.
This would not have been possible without the support of my wife and daughter.â??
In addition to piloting IHCC to the two national titles, Hagen has coached the Warriors to six district championships and 50 tournament titles.
He has also coached on the international stage, helping with the collegiate Team USA in 2008 and 2012, in South Africa and the Czech Republic, respectively.
In his tenure at IHCC, Hagen has coached 14 Ping All-Americans, four Ping All-Freshman team members, two Phil Mickelson Award Winners, three Team USA members, a Jimmy Russell Award winner and six squads that were named NJCAA All-Academic teams. Twenty-nine of his team members have signed with four-year schools after graduating from IHCC.
And 14 have been named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team.
Hagenâ??s current Indian Hills golfers are getting ready to open their spring season at the UST Mamiya Texas Intercollegiate tourney Mar. 10-11.
They concluded the fall campaign ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Golfstat rankings and rated No. 2 by the NJCAA.
