No. 16 Truman State softball sweeps SJC
-ranked Truman softball team stamped two more victories to the 2014 ledger on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldogs allowed just one run in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph's (Ind.) in the final Great Lakes Valley Conference inter-division games of the regular season.
The Bulldogs (35-8, 25-5 GLVC) blanked St. Joseph's (14-24, 11-17) 5-0 in the opener behind a complete game shutout by Kindra Henze, before Kelsea Dorsey held SJC to just one run in a 7-1 Truman victory in the finale. Ally McReynolds posted a five-hit day at the plate between the two games, scoring once and stealing a bag, while Danielle Lewellen and Kelsey Bollman each added three hits in the doubleheader. Truman's team defense was also perfect for the afternoon, not committing a single error in 42 defensive attempts.
Truman remains solidly in second place in the GLVC West division with six regular season games to play, as the Bulldogs trail No. 5 Missouri-St. Louis' division-leading mark of 21-3. Both teams will see similar slates this week as the schedules returns to pod play, with the Bulldogs hosting Quincy on Tuesday, UMSL on Saturday, and Maryville on Sunday at the Bulldog Softball Park.
Tuesday afternoon's home doubleheader with Route 6 rival QU (20-26, 12-18) is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. The Lady Hawks split at Saint Joseph's on Saturday before falling twice at No. 24 Indianapolis on Sunday.

The Bulldogs put one on the board right away, when Kelsey Bollman singled home Alexis VanNostrand to give the guests a fast 1-0 lead. Ally McReynolds then brought home Liz Leath in the fourth to push Truman's edge to 2-0.
Truman bought insurance in the seventh, plating three runs to move ahead 5-0. Corey Niblett scored on a Puma error, before Danielle Lewellen scampered home on a squeeze bunt by Andrea Klipsch. Jessica VanNostrand then scored Klipsch on a sacrifice fly.
Kindra Henze recorded her 11
complete game shutout of the season, striking out six to improve her season record to 18-4.

Once again, Truman wasted no time putting St. Joseph's in a hole, as A. VanNostrand singled home Lewellen just three batters in for a quick 1-0 lead. Then, in the second, Whitney Richardson delivered an RBI double before coming home to score on a Klipsch sacrifice fly helping to put the purple and white on top, 3-0 through two.
The 'Dogs capitalized on a Puma error to score two more in the fourth, before SJC got on the board in the home half for a 5-1 Truman lead. Klipsch then added a two-run double in the sixth, give the 'Dogs the eventual final margin of 7-1.
Kelsea Dorsey closed a perfect 2-0 weekend in the circle with her complete game effort. She improved to 17-4 overall on the season after dispensing only six singles and one earned run.
