Rebecca Nelson sits in ninth place, 301 points behind the leader, after the first five events of the women's Heptathlon at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships.
Nelson started the event with a 12th place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.
Nelson ran 14.81 to accumulate 867 points, her high point total in a single event on Thursday.
She then set a career-high with a clearing of 5-4.50 in the High Jump to place fifth.
In the Shot Put, Nelson's final attempt went 35-03.00 to finish ninth and score 578 points while in the 200, she ran 26.49 to place 15th and nab 755 points.
For the day, Nelson scored 2,983 points and is 301 points behind leader Madison Smith of the University of Central Missouri.
The Heptathlon will conclude on Friday starting with the Long Jump at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) followed by the Javelin and the 800 meter run.
