Senior Rebecca Nelson will cap off her Track & Field career by representing the Bulldogs at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Allendale, Michigan, hosted by Grand Valley State University. Nelson will compete in the Heptathlon beginning on Thursday, May 22 and concluding on May 23.
It will be the third outdoor appearance for Nelson who finished 17th in the Javelin in both 2011 and 2013.
She ranks 10th in the field of 16 competitors when she broke the Truman Heptathlon record with 4,982 points to win the combine events at the Kansas Relays in April.
Junior Salcia Slack from New Mexico Highlands has the top point total this season in the Heptathlon, scoring 5,833 points, more than 600 points over second seeded Jordan Grey of Angelo (Texas) St.
The top returner from last season's Hepthalon is Karolin Anders from Alaska-Anchorage. Anders finished fifth last season and has the seventh highest point total entering this year's Heptathlon.
Nelson is joined in the field by fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference member Megan Marchildon of Lewis (Ill.) University. Marchildon edged out Nelson by 24 points for first place in the conference outdoor championship two weeks ago.
The first four events, the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meter dash) will take place starting at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22 and the Long Jump, Javelin and 800 will being at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 23.
