The Orange & Black Foundation and the Kirksville Football Hall of Fame proudly announce the selection of the 2014 inductees.
Under the direction of Head Coach Jerry Meyer, the 1980â??s brought consistently powerful teams with a great deal of success.
Known for their toughness and physicality, the teams of the 80â??s enjoyed punishing opponents with crushing running games and bruising defense.
The first great season of the era was the fall of 1980 when the Tigers defeated Marshall for the first time in 73 years, and compiled a 9-1 season.
They also set a school record of 221 offensive points while allowing only 73.
For two weeks during the season, the Tigers were ranked 10th in the state.
For the first time in school history, the Tigers had three players selected to the all-state team.
These three, Mike Richerson, Barry Pockrandt, and Robert Rosenbaum will be individually inducted into the Kirksville Football Hall of Fame.
Additionally, in recognition of the stellar achievements of the season, the 1980 Kirksville Tigers will be inducted as a team.
The 2014 Kirksville Tigers Hall of Fame night is September 12th at Spainhower Field.
